Another good Saturday morning.

The hall was set up on the Friday night with new helper fellow club member Keith, our numbers are growing, all done very efficiently these days, the words military exercise comes to mind, so quick it wasn’t worth putting the kettle on.

In the morning the juniors arrived full of ideas and drawings they had made, some for today and some to try out at my house another time. Pinocchio is our chosen theme for the Hayling island scarecrow this summer, and 3 drawings were placed on the big notice board.

With the news letters handed out and a reminder it’s a machine shop not a playground they were off. They made tabards last time with Angy and Nikky so to carry that on turning wise they turned 2 rolling pin shaped pieces and hung a hessian pocketed piece between them, a wall hanging piece with what ever they wanted sewn to it hung on string, Kieran’s was a bonfire with large flames leaping up, and 3 decorative burnt rings on each end of the wood, no surprises there then!

Both Kim, Eric and I turned some wall hanging pieces, the others did bud vases and an ant, James turned some knobs to fit on the arms of the big comfy chairs that belong to St John here, others just simple things, lots happening on the pyrography table but I don’t think anybody used the acrylic paints this time or the blow lamp.

The mid morning bell was rung and I was ready for it, Thomas had made some iced cakes, so along with the Banana cake there was lots to eat plus the cold drinks. It wasn’t long before the demand to turn was back and away we went again, lots of camera work which is always useful as it helps me with the writing, 3 camera’s usually available for them to use, and on request I believe we have a member of the Havant Camera club coming next time, the idea is to relieve Ron from that side of things, hopefully they will help the juniors to just look more closely at the subject but not to much as we don’t want to take the fun out of it do we!

So writing wise not a lot to say really but still a brilliant morning as far as the members were concerned, they all went home with something apart from James, couldn’t get one of those big comfy chairs in granddads car, shame that, I reckon he could fall asleep in one of those very easily. Before you could say “shavings everywhere” it was time to pack up again, Keith came back as promised and with lots of help from the juniors its all done pretty quickly, I wonder how many of them push a vacuum at home? So all done, I end up with loads of “can you take that Mick stuff” so end up taking home more than I brought, and Nikky I think washed the cake boxes for me and cleaned the kitchen, thanks Nikky.

So just this heap of gear to squeeze into my van and I’m done, with some eager helpers its all done and it’s the locking of the doors and saying goodbye, and there goes another brilliant junior club.
