Another good Saturday morning.
Our September meeting was our Christmas meeting; I had a project set for teams which the juniors went through very quickly, so I had to come up with something special today to get my Street Cred back…….I was excited to see the beautiful colours of the Autumn leaves again, I love this time of year, for 3 days our kitchen floor at home came host to a big bag of leaves and things spread out for drying, a collage became the theme, 2 boards 4’ x 3’ with white card on, one for the boys, one for the girls. Raechel started helping to draw the Junior Logo tree when the juniors said politely…..”can we do our own design” which is fine, good to be imaginative, and good for them to be bold enough to want to manage the project them selves, as for boys and girl teams, well, seems both did bits on both boards. All finished for a photo shoot and a lollypop each as we don’t have winners or losers here. I think I have my Street cred back, they really enjoyed getting paint everywhere and creating a picture using all the different coloured leaves I brought in, and a carrot, got to have a carrot in a collage haven’t you……
I suggested a sphere for turning, good practice and maybe next time they will have come up with an idea to use them, which may require more than one, juggling, planets etc etc….. Lots of senior club members popped in today, they had pieces for the Surrey show tomorrow, and 5 seniors were going up to display them, while here they had a walk round the club house, I think they were surprised to see what goes on, those that were here mid way had a coffee and banana cake.
We had a number of ply face masks cut out, (thank you Derek) Halloween scary faces painted on them; I think they all had a go at that. Lily turned a little Goblet with Eric, Kayleigh turned a 4” Beech bowl with Mike and Dave a Ken turned spheres and Pens, Ken had a couple of pieces turned to fit, one in the chuck and one on the tail stock, these pieces had hollows in them so a sphere could be held between them for more work, brilliant idea.
John guided Grant to polish his Cheese board while Dave helped the others finish theirs. Wow, so much going on with materials and juniors every where….as usual the time goes so quickly. Time was called and the grand clear up started, lots of help from seniors and juniors, some people had to go early but there was still a small army of helpers. Apart from a little acrylic paint on the carpet which washed off you wouldn’t know we’d been there….and there goes another brilliant junior meeting, I think I got my Credibility back, it was a very busy crafty morning.
