Another good Saturday morning.

 Back

I never know what to call these reports/articles, but either way this time it’s a mix of both May and June’s, I’m so busy these days with work and juniors doing stuff in my workshop, the time flies and before I know it its another meeting and I’ve written nothing about the last one.

May was interesting to say the least…..Angy was away up country, Keith and Sue were at a wedding and we had 20 children, 8 new members in one go, wow, putting it mildly that was a bit of a shock, how ever the adult helpers were brilliant, stuff everywhere and the children had a ball.

The scarecrow was paper mache’d, big pile of paper and 4 children with PVA everywhere and a brilliant job done with lots of fun had by all. We did free pens this time to keep them busy; I think Emily, Kayliegh, Luke and Cloe turned Pens. Kirsten, Amber, Zoe and Sarah cut out Fish shapes and did an animation on the big Nobo board using the camera on a tripod, Loran I believe drew the scene as in the sea weed etc, very good result, I think this is a brilliant idea and needs more time, the fish were cut out of thin brightly coloured foam sheets.

Luckily we had Lucille the blacksmith today; she brought her Father along as well as a young blacksmith with a forge and her nephew, she very quickly set up in the car park and mainly it was the boys that took advantage here, they turned small coat hooks and did some coloured Perspex and pewter pendants, very clever idea and was a brilliant addition to the activities required to keep 20 busy children occupied this morning.

Loran was busy with the camera; she’s taken a real interest with this so we are helping her with new ideas. Two new lads along with dad had a morning’s turning lessons with Mike, they had a brilliant time and I can’t remember very much more other than it took ages to load my van, no boys helping today, just Loran, I think that explains it!

So now we are into June….where did the first half of this year go…….with great relief we have Angy, Keith and Sue back, lots going on, not so many children this time but still busy, pens again bases for fantasy film flowers, somebody took loads of pictures of people smiling, Sam brought in a nice piece of Yew from his large store of timber and turned a nice bowl, Loran did an animation of a dragon, Grant turned a bowl and a pen, and Bill got to help his first junior on a lathe, it went very well, its good to get new turner helpers, we’ll get him on a lathe every meeting now.

Alex as always moving around the hall helping with photography and keeping a watchful eye on things, he brought in a battery fan that involved soldering some wires and fiddling around for some of the boys. Ron was busy with the computer, the girls were busy here today looking for previously taken pictures for a box they were making, brilliant idea, very creative, I think it was using a box Angy had.

And I think that’s about as much as I can remember, as always the 3 hours goes so quickly for me, as I expect it does for everybody else, Kieran helped me load the van today as he was coming back to my workshop to make something for his dad, a while ago Jordan and I timed the loading of the van at a few seconds under 8 minutes, well Kieran like a challenge, we got it down to 5 mins, cant see Jordan letting that go so it’ll be interesting to hear what he has to say when Kieran tells him at the next meeting, watch this space as they say, if I play my cards right Ill have them loading the van for me…….so its check all the doors and windows and away, and there goes two brilliant meetings…
