Use mains plugs with shielded live and neutral pins

This is essential to minimise the risk of electric shocks when inserting or removing plugs from sockets.

Portable Appliance Testing

All electrical equipment over 1 year old must be tested using a PAT tester to ensure that it is safe.  This test must be carried out by a suitably qualified person.

Lathe height

It is essential that the height of the lathe is set to suit the person doing the turning.

The height of the lathe should be adjusted so that the centre line is at the same height as the elbow of the person using the lathe.  In the picture to the right, the child's forearm is horizontal, so the lathe is at the correct height.
