Letter from visitor to March 2009 Open Weekend
At the end of February, mum took us to our grandparents for the weekend. On the Sunday we visited a woodturning open day at Havant. Where children and adults could look at the wonderful exhibition of all the clubs work which was amazing.
You could come and make some wonderful pieces of art work by using woodturning skills. There was Lathes, pieography, sewing and painting as well. Lathes set up so you could make pens on, my mum did that with help from one of the members. A lathes was set up for Children to use I did this I had to put a special overall and helmet with a visor on it and you could make fun things such as a game where you have to try and get one cube to the other cube, I really enjoyed this and Mick who helped me was very patient and informative.
Also I helped make plates by drilling holes in the wood, demonstrating and making bugs with stones. I would like to thank Derek on the pieography, Mick on the lath, Angie on the sewing, making and painting stand. Also all the other men for being so patient and caring and letting all the adults and children use their machines, and tools.
My 4 year old brother Callum really enjoyed painting and decorating the wooden egg and egg cup and he also had a go at the pieography but didn’t like the smoke going up his nose, so Derek stamped the pictures on wood and he enjoyed colouring them in, then near the end he curled up on the seat and went to sleep he’d had so much fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the day. We all really enjoyed the lunch to especially the lovely cakes. Thank you all so very much.
